Ballet Folklorico Instructor
Kat has been dancing ballet folklorico for the majority of her life, starting early while she was growing up in Greeley, Colorado. She began teaching by 15 years old and is an expert in making the elaborate costumes used for performances. “Dancing connects me to the past and the future, and both sides of my heritage. As someone who is biracial and grew up in a mixed community, honoring both sides of who I am is very important to me, as is making sure that all feel welcome to join me in learning.”
Over the years she has co-directed adult groups, taught students from 4 to 60+ years old, and performed throughout Colorado, Wyoming, and Texas. She takes particular pride in showcasing the strength and beauty of traditional Mexican dances from Jalisco and beyond, along with the rich history behind the dances.
Outside of creative pursuits, Kat is passionate about helping entrepreneurs navigate the complexities of starting and growing their business, regardless of industry. She is also an avid player of Magic the Gathering and loves science fiction!
